“Fear is only as deep as the mind allows”

Growing up in a landlocked country, I was surrounded by hills and mountains. I never imagined what it would feel like being so close to the ocean, or better yet in it! I think it is crazy how much the ocean helps you heal and makes you feel so little, but at the same time whole. The very first time I saw the ocean was in Puerto Rico and I was just taken. I knew ever since that I wanted to live by the sea. After a long journey from the mid to the west, California coasts soared waves that took my breath away. Ever since then, I have to been moving and journeying west ward. Maui has been a crazy ride but a very positive experience for me. I would not trade anything for my first move here. I did not know anyone here, but I had a sense of belonging, and I knew I would be here for a very long time.

I remember being invited to the drums circle that happens on Sundays and that was my first Sunday out on Maui. The little beach is a story in it self, but getting back to my story..... I remember going to the beach and everyone was in the water and the waves were at least 3-5 foot tall. :P

I love swimming in the ocean and always love to be in the water any chance I can get. I knew I had to overcome my fear of the waves. I could see everyone in the water and waving me to get in. A little hesitated, but I jumped in. The thrill that came after that was amazing as I learned how to dive down when the wave crossed me. I felt a sense of pride and a welcome by Mama Maui. Ever since then, the ocean has been a therapy for me, and for most people that live by the ocean, I am sure they can attest to that. Salty but goodie! As of now, I love the dive and just enjoy swimming, as it is definitely a different world there. I will be uploading more underwater photos and my adventures in the sea.
